Who to call

A flood insurance discount most towns don't have

The Village participates in FEMA's Community Rating System and has achieved a Class 6 rating. According to the Village, homeowners required to carry flood insurance in a Special Flood Hazard Area get a 20% premium reduction, and those outside it who choose to carry flood insurance get a 10% reduction. The Village also helps property owners figure out whether they're in or near a Special Flood Hazard Area.

Illegal sump connections and backups

Deerfield says sump pumps connected to the sanitary sewer are illegal. In the aggregate, it says, they put millions of gallons of storm water into the sanitary system, causing backups and forcing the Village to treat clean water at its Water Reclamation Facility. The Village has offered a limited-time 20% rebate for eliminating these connections, with a permit, inspection and a licensed plumber's Certificate of Compliance required. Ask Community Development (847-719-7484) whether it's still available.

Village flood protection work

The Village lists more restrictive floodplain regulations, the Lake Cook Road at Pfingsten Road stormwater detention basin, frequent creek and drainage inspections, and preserved floodplain open space among its efforts.
